Our focus at X Factor Admissions is provide the essential insight to help applicants prepare for the challenging admissions process to the 61 most selective colleges in this country with acceptance rates of 25% and below. The preparation needed to gain admission to one of these 61 colleges will be just as valuable for an application to any less selective college with a higher acceptance rate.

Excellent Academics are the Baseline for Admission

Excellent grades, AP courses and outstanding SAT/ACT scores represent the baseline to gain admission to a selective college. With too many applicants meeting this bar for academic excellence, top colleges now look for something extra from an applicant.

Standing Out at One Special Thing is Just as Important

Top colleges admit “superstars” in one special thing. When you nurture your child’s talents, interests and passions early, it helps them develop that X Factor and puts them on track to a top college.

While academic performance is a pre-requisite, demonstrating qualities that elite colleges value is what gains admission for the applicant.

How to demonstrate these qualities is probably one of the most misunderstood and confusing parts of the application process.

An applicant’s choice of activities demonstrate the qualities they possess, just as much as the essay enables an applicant to showcase who they are and demonstrate that they embody the desired qualities.

At X Factor Admissions, our research and data shows that methodical advance preparation enables an applicant to deliver what the selective colleges want.

DONNA MEYER, Founder

The nearly 10 years I spent as a fencing parent gave me incredible insight into sports as a great way to stand out in an application for admission to an academically elite college. It also inspired me to start the blog, Fencing Parents, which remains the single most important source of information for college bound fencers interested in becoming athlete recruits.

My older son eventually pursued a set of independent activities in high school that he was passionate about, and it was these activities that gave him his edge in college admissions. His experience along with those of many other kids who pursued their passions outside school opened my eyes to how powerful independent activities can be in standing out above others in the college admissions competition.

I spent many years learning the intricacies of college admissions, consulted with a variety of admissions experts, and talked to admissions officers, NCAA coaches and many parents. I am a firm believer in data, and I use it extensively to gain insight into the college admissions process. Despite the chaos and lack of transparency, I have found that there is method in the madness of college admissions which I now share with you.

I have an extensive background in investment banking and investments across asset classes and I have worked in several major cities around the world including New York, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

I have an MBA from Columbia University in New York, and an LLB (Honors) from the National University of Singapore.
